Thornton Tomasetti, the international engineering firm announces that D. Michael Dowdall, P.E. has joined its Kansas City office as a vice president. Joe Vyhanek, P.E., a senior vice president who joined the Kansas City office last year to lead the firm’s MEP team, sought out Mr. Dowdall for his extensive experience in mechanical design and forensics.
• In addition to his extensive background in MEP design and construction, Mr. Dowdall is experienced in forensic investigations and expert witness testimony in relation to HVAC equipment failures and installation issues. He also has considerable experience with commissioning and lifecycle cost analysis.
• Prior to joining Thornton Tomasetti, Mr. Dowdall served as president of Dowdall Engineering, Inc., a design-build firm he founded in 1992. The firm specialized in complex facilities such as data centers and mission critical facilities, as well as cleanrooms with a need for precision control of temperature and humidity.
• Recently, Mr. Dowdall had been working with Lockheed Martin on FAA control towers at commercial airports in the Midwest.
• Mr. Dowdall has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Kansas, Lawrence and is professional mechanical engineer in Missouri. He is also an International Ground Source Heat Pump Association accredited installer.
