Robert K. Otani has more than 16 years of structural design and management experience involving commercial, sports, infrastructure, aviation and cultural projects. He has worked on a wide variety of complex projects, including high-rise commercial buildings, long-span roof structures, sports arenas, airport terminals, major building structural renovations and retrofits, structural investigations and blast design. He has broad structural engineering experience, including seismic and wind lateral analysis, dynamic analysis, thermal analysis, structural steel and concrete detailing. Rob is an expert in designing architecturally-exposed structural steel structures and detailing.

His project work includes John F. Kennedy International Airport, Terminal One, Jamaica, N.Y.; Random House World Headquarters/The Park Imperial, New York City; and American Airlines Arena, Miami, Fla. With a previous employer, he was the lead structural engineer for Columbia University’s Northwest Science Building in New York City and “The Rising,” 9/11 Westchester Memorial, Valhalla, N.Y.

Rob is a licensed professional engineer in New York and in Canada in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Alberta. He is an adjunct instructor at Columbia University GSAPP and an adjunct assistant professor at Pratt Institute Undergraduate School of Architecture, Brooklyn, N.Y. Rob holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Rutgers University and a master’s degree in civil engineering from Pennsylvania State University.
