AMY SEIF HATTAN, LEED Green Associate
Corporate Sustainability Officer
Amy Hattan is responsible for strategic planning of the building sustainability practice. She guides Thornton Tomasetti in developing innovative sustainable design services. She also leads the firm’s corporate sustainability program, which includes further development of the AIA 2030 commitment. Amy has more than 15 years of experience managing programs and projects in the sustainability field, and in communications. Previously, she was the Director of Strategic Initiatives at Second Nature in Boston, where she developed a national capacity-building program funded by the Kresge Foundation to advance green building in higher education. At Second Nature, Amy supervised the development of the award-winning web site, The Campus Green Builder. Amy was integral in the development of the Office of Sustainability at the University of New Hampshire, and served as the campus sustainability coordinator for Middlebury College.
Amy has published numerous magazine articles about earth-friendly green initiatives from simple at-home tips to on-campus composting alternatives, and co-authored a guidance document with the U.S. Green Building Council on green building education. She holds a Summa Cum Laude bachelor’s degree in environmental conservation from the University of New Hampshire, a master’s degree in journalism and mass communications from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government.
