John Abruzzo, P.E., LEED AP
Senior Principal
Mr. John Abruzzo, who leads our firm’s Northern California operations, is a recognized leader in the field of forensic engineering, with extensive experience working with a wide variety of materials and design types including high-rise and long-span steel structures. He possesses specialized knowledge in performance-based design, assessing and predicting the behavior of steel and reinforced concrete connections, structural stability and hardening, blast analysis, nonlinear analysis, materials testing, data acquisition and testing of structural elements. Based in Oakland, he coordinates all California operations with Bruce Gibbons, who is based in Los Angeles.
John has worked on some of the most significant structural collapses in the United States including the collapses of the I-35W bridge, L’Ambiance Plaza Condominiums, the Schoharie Creek Thruway Bridge in New York State, the Miller Park (Milwaukee Brewer’s baseball stadium) crane collapse, and the Tropicana Parking Garage collapse in Atlantic City, N.J.
John holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Villanova University and Stevens Institute of Technology, respectively, and has completed coursework toward a Ph.D. degree from Lehigh University.
