Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Robert P. DeScenza has served as chief operating officer of Thornton Tomasetti since 2005, overseeing the global operational activities of the firm. He joined Thornton Tomasetti in 1978 and has more than 30 years of experience in the structural engineering of a wide variety of building types, from long-span sports and entertainment arenas and stadiums to high-rise commercial and mixed-use buildings, in concrete and steel. Bob has extensive experience in the renovation and rehabilitation of vintage structures, in the application of state-of-the-art engineering technologies for building analysis, structural systems and optimization and he has authored several articles on the subject. A registered professional engineer in 14 states, Bob has published numerous papers, authored many articles and publications, and served as an expert witness. He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from The Cooper Union and did graduate studies in civil and structural engineering at Northwestern University.
