ROBERT P. DESCENZA, P.E., LEED AP
Bob DeScenza joined Thornton Tomasetti in 1978 and served as chief operating officer from 2008 to 2011, overseeing the global operational activities of the firm. He has more than 30 years of experience in the structural engineering of a wide variety of building types, from long-span sports and entertainment arenas and stadiums to high-rise commercial and mixed-use buildings, in both concrete and steel. He has extensive experience in the renovation and rehabilitation of vintage structures, in the application of state-of-the-art engineering technologies for building analysis, structural systems and optimization and he has authored several articles on the subject. A licensed professional engineer in 14 states, Bob has published numerous papers, authored many articles and publications, and served as an expert witness. He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from The Cooper Union and did graduate studies in civil and structural engineering at Northwestern University.
