Akbar Tamboli, P.E., F. ASCE
Principal
Mr. Akbar Tamboli has more than 35 years of experience in the design and management of projects in both structural steel and concrete in the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. He has been responsible for managing major projects including healthcare facilities, research laboratories, high-rise buildings, office and residential developments and hotels. Akbar’s experience also includes providing technical expertise in solving complex construction problems related to structural design. His specialty includes design and management of large, fast-track projects.
Recently Akbar has managed several high-profile institutional projects including the Ruth and Raymond Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine, Fisher Translational Research Center and Roberts Proton Therapy Center, all for the University of Pennsylvania Health System in Philadelphia, PA. He also managed the award-winning the Janelia Farms Research Campus for Howard Hughes Medical Institute in Leesburg, Virginia. Additionally, he worked on the John Edward Porter National Neuroscience Research Center at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD and the Millennium Science Complex at Penn State University in State College, PA.
Akbar has published two engineering handbooks: Steel Design Handbook LRFD Method and Handbook of Structural Steel Connection Design and Details. He has also contributed to structural analysis chapters for Building Design Handbook and Civil Engineering Handbook.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Poona, India and a master’s degree in structural engineering from Stanford University.
