Senior Vice President

For more than 20 years, Joe Sutton has served as principal-in-charge and project manager for hundreds of projects including major corporate and academic campus developments totaling over 15 million square feet. He has more than 30 years of professional experience leading design and peer review teams for the structural engineering of major new facilities and the retrofitting of existing buildings. He brings specialized knowledge of designing for California’s stringent seismic codes. Under his leadership many large and significant projects have been completed in a wide array of market sectors. His specialty is in the academic field, where he has designed projects ranging from laboratories and research centers at major universities to student unions, libraries, and classroom facilities at community colleges, as well as new K-12 campuses, providing Joe a working relationship with California’s Division of the State Architect. He also has extensive project experience with government, healthcare, corporate campuses, data center/mission critical facilities, and mixed-use facilities. He serves as co-chair for the firm-wide higher education committee.

Joe is a licensed structural engineer in California, Nevada, Oregon, Arizona, Colorado, and Missouri and a licensed civil engineer in California. He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of California, Davis and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
