Joseph R. Sutton, P.E., S.E.

Mr. Joe Sutton cofounded DASSE Design (San Francisco Bay Area predecessor to Thornton Tomasetti) in 1986 and has served as principal-in-charge and project manager for hundreds of projects. Joe has 34 years of professional experience leading design teams for the structural engineering of major new facilities and the retrofitting of existing buildings. Under his leadership many large and significant projects have been completed in a wide array of market sectors. His particular specialty is in the academic field, where he has designed projects ranging from laboratories and research centers at major universities to student unions, libraries, and classroom facilities at community colleges, as well as to complete new K-12 campuses. He also has extensive project experience with government, healthcare, commercial, multi-unit housing, parking garages, and mixed-use facilities.

Joe holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of California, Davis and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of California-Berkeley.
