Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineer - New York, New York - February 03, 2012

Thornton Tomasetti is seeking a Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineer for its NY/NJ offices.

This individual will be expected to manage and execute plumbing, fire protection and fire alarm system investigations of existing buildings and to design and manage remedial repairs for deficient conditions. The investigations include failure cause and origin analysis, life cycle cost and feasibility analyses, property loss insurance and claims response, and litigation support. The candidate will be required to provide direction to, and review the work product of, junior level staff, coordinate with other project managers on interdisciplinary efforts, support marketing efforts, and develop and maintain client relationships.

The candidate should be experienced in the evaluation, design, and construction of plumbing, fire protection and fire alarm systems across Thornton Tomasetti’s broad vertical market spectrum. The candidate should also be well versed in building code analysis and interpretation. The candidate will participate in, and travel to, our projects worldwide.

Responsibilities
• Interface with clients and represent the firm at meetings
• Assist in the preparation of proposals
• Lead the analysis, evaluation, design and specification of plumbing, fire protection and fire alarm systems.
• Review calculations, code requirements, schematic designs, and budgetary cost estimates
• Prepare feasibility studies, reports, and cost analyses
• Work with a multi-discipline team of design professionals

Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering
• 7+ years experience
• Professional Engineer’s License
• Proficiency in design
• Proficiency in both manual and software assisted calculations
• Ability to travel to project sites
