The world’s biggest sporting event is coming to one of the largest NFL stadiums in the US. It was announced yesterday that the FIFA World Cup 2026 final will be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on July 19. Home of the New York Jets and Giants, the Thornton Tomasetti-designed venue has a seating capacity of 82,000 and spans 2.2 million square feet. In addition to the final, seven other games will be played at the stadium. Since opening in 2010, MetLife Stadium has hosted many major events, including the first outdoor, cold-weather Super Bowl in 2014 and the Copa América Centenario men’s soccer final in 2016.

The World Cup 2026 roster features several other Thornton Tomasetti structural design projects, such as Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, BMO Field in Toronto, Canada, and Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, which will host quarterfinals games and the third-place playoff.
