Patricia Coleman, P.E. of Thornton Tomasetti Inducted into Distinguished Engineering Alumni Academy at University Of Iowa

The University of Iowa College of Engineering has chosen Patricia Coleman, P.E., a principal of Thornton Tomasetti, for induction into the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Academy (DEAA).

Nominees for the award must have made distinguished contributions to engineering theory and practice, managed an organization that has made noteworthy contributions to design, construction and production, or contributed exceptional service to their community, the College of Engineering, or their profession. Ms. Coleman shows exceptional leadership in and service to the profession. Ms. Coleman, who is based in Thornton Tomasetti’s Dallas, Texas office, will receive the award for her “exceptional leadership in and service to the profession,” noted a statement from the College of Engineering.

» The DEAA extends an invitation for membership to one alumnus per year.

» Inductees are nominated by students, faculty, staff, alumni, and anyone else who wishes to submit a nomination. A nomination committee reviews all submissions, sending the most outstanding finalists to the Dean of Engineering.

» Chartered in February 1996, the DEAA has 61 members to date.

» Ms. Coleman has 31 years of experience in structural design and project management; she is a licensed professional engineer in Florida, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, and Texas.

» Her work spans several market sectors, including commercial, education, industrial, residential, retail, and healthcare facilities. Ms. Coleman is a co-leader of the health care market sector at Thornton Tomasetti.

Ms. Coleman is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Society of Healthcare Engineers, and she serves on the board of directors of the ACE Mentor Program of DFW since 2003. She is also a Chairman of the National Affiliates Council, ACE Mentor Program of America. Ms. Coleman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Iowa. She is scheduled to speak at the College of Engineering’s undergraduate commencement ceremony in May.
