Thornton Tomasetti's Mark Dannettel Named Building Skin Practice Leader for Pacific Rim Region

Thornton Tomasetti Vice President Mark Dannettel, LEED AP BD+C has been named leader of the firm’s Building Skin practice for the Pacific Rim region. Mr. Dannettel is based in Los Angeles, and is also the practice leader for the west coast region. He has more than 20 years of experience in architecture, engineering, façade design and building technology in both Asia and the U.S. His façade consulting work includes high-rise towers, civic and institutional structures, hospitals, airports, hotels and residential towers.

• Thornton Tomasetti’s multidisciplinary team of building skin specialists has decades of experience designing, engineering, and constructing innovative, award-winning exteriors.
• The Building Skin practice assists in the design, engineering, and execution of state-of-the-art, constructible, sustainable building skin solutions that address project design, function, budget, and scheduling goals. Services include detailed design, bidding and negotiation, value engineering, contractor’s design review, manufacturing and testing monitoring, and site installation review.
• Building skin designs are integrated in new building projects, and in renovations of existing buildings.
• Mr. Dannettel’s international consulting experience with Thornton Tomasetti includes Tencent Headquarters in China, Wuhan Greenland Tower in China, ChinaTrust Headquarters in Taiwan, and the College of Media in Doha, Qatar. Domestic projects include the Stockton, California Courthouse, the GSA Calexico Border Crossing, the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center in California, and a new GSA building in Florida.
• Mr. Dannettel has worked as a specialist façade contractor, with built projects including the Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies in Chicago; a cable-net and double façade for the Loyola Information Commons in Chicago; and a cable-supported glass wall for the Newseum in Washington, D.C.
• Mr. Dannettel has taught architecture at several universities, including the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Most recently, he taught “Advanced Building Skins” at the Southern California Institute of Architecture. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in architecture from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree in architecture from Arizona State University.
