(New York, NY. – January 4, 2010) – Thornton Tomasetti, the international engineering firm with practices in building structure, building skin and building performance, announces that Peter Lassetter has joined the firm as senior vice president in San Francisco, Calif.

Lassetter brings more than three decades of experience to Thornton Tomasetti. He began his engineering career at Arup’s London office in 1976, and most recently served as principal at Arup and as the firm’s group leader for the San Francisco office. He was responsible for overseeing the firm’s operations, business development and project leadership.

In his new role, Lassetter will help grow the Bay Area operation, develop new markets and clients, and lead structural engineering design teams on key projects. He joins the Northern California leadership team of John Abruzzo, Bill Dasher and Joe Sutton.

“Thornton Tomasetti has an excellent reputation for the quality of its work,” Lassetter said. “I am excited at the prospect of working alongside its many talented and innovative engineers.”

“Peter’s wealth of industry knowledge, and experience working throughout California, will also enhance our ability to serve clients throughout the state,” said Bruce Gibbons, senior principal in Los Angeles.

Lassetter led and coordinated the structural design on the California Academy of Sciences project, which gained LEED Platinum certification and received many design awards. Other notable projects include the structural design of UC Davis’ Department of Plant Sciences and PiC for the Kaiser Permanente Template Hospital design. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Leeds University, and is a Chartered Structural Engineer in the United Kingdom and a LEED accredited professional.

“Peter’s background and ideals are a great fit for Thornton Tomasetti,” said Abruzzo, senior principal in Oakland. “We look forward to his contributing to the growth of our business in California and throughout the firm.”
