Thornton Tomasetti Receives NCSEA 2010 Excellence in Structural Engineering Award for The Wild Beast Music Pavilion at CalArts
September 02, 2010(New York – September 2, 2010) – Thornton Tomasetti, the international engineering firm, received the National Council of Structural Engineers Association’s (NCSEA) 2010 Excellence in Structural Engineering Award for The Wild Beast Music Pavilion at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). The awards presentation ceremony will be held October 2, 2010 at the NCSEA’s Sixteenth Annual Conference at the Hyatt Regency on the Hudson, in Jersey City, NJ.
Thornton Tomasetti provided structural design services for this unique music pavilion on the CalArts campus in Valencia, California. The free-standing, single-story, 3,200 square-foot building serves as a home for the indoor-outdoor rehearsal and performance space for the Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts, with a rolling wall that allows the structure to transform from an acoustically refined recital hall accommodating 140, to an outdoor performance space for an audience of up to 1,000. The architect for the project is Hodgetts + Fung Design Associates.
“It’s an honor for Thornton Tomasetti to be recognized by the NCSE for creative achievement and innovation in structural engineering for the Wild Beast Music Pavilion project,” said Bruce Gibbons, senior principal, P.E., S.E., LEED AP.
