Thornton Tomasetti Opens New Office in Denver

International engineering firm Thornton Tomasetti will open a new office in Denver, Colo. on January 30. The firm, which now has 25 offices internationally, is opening the new office to better serve current and potential clients in the western Central region and Mountain States. Senior Principal Steve Hofmeister will oversee the new office as manager of the company’s Midwest U.S. region.

Located in lower downtown Denver, the new office will offer Thornton Tomasetti clients the services of its Building Structure, Construction Support Services, Property Loss Consulting and Building Performance practices.

Thornton Tomasetti, the international engineering firm, announces the acquisition of Fore Solutions, a green building consulting firm that will allow Thornton Tomasetti to significantly expand its sustainability consulting services and integrate green objectives across all its practices.

Pennsylvania State University Millennium Science Complex Opens; Engineered by Structural Design Team at Thornton Tomasetti

Thornton Tomasetti, the international engineering firm, was the structural project engineer for the Pennsylvania State University Millennium Science Complex, home of the new Life and Materials Science programs for the University. Thornton Tomasetti worked with Executive Architect Rafael Viñoly and General Contractor Whiting Turner Construction Co.

The 275,600-square-foot complex comprises two four-story wings that converge over an entrance plaza, which features a unique open design in the roof. The two wings cantilever 154 feet over the plaza, supported by two tapered steel trusses on either side. Steps were taken to reduce the weight of the steel to allow the 154-foot span, resulting in reduced construction costs.
