New Bakersfield Federal Courthouse
Bakersfield, Calif.
Design work has started for the new two-story, 33,400-gross-sf Bakersfield Federal Courthouse. We are providing structural engineering services for this design-build project, in collaboration with Gilbane and NBBJ Architects. The project is part of a $5.5-billion General Services Administration initiative under the federal Recovery Act to build new energy-efficient federal buildings and convert existing structures into high-performance green buildings. The courthouse will be occupied by one magistrate court and chamber, the district clerk’s office, U.S. Marshals Service and U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services. The building is expected to achieve LEED Silver certification at minimum. It will also save taxpayer dollars through innovative design and energy efficiency. Construction is scheduled to begin May 2010.
