Rose Bowl Stadium Renovation
Pasadena, Calif.
Ground was broken in January for the first phase of renovation of the historic stadium. Thornton Tomasetti is providing structural engineering services to implement the new master plan for the venue. The three-year renovation is the largest investment in the Rose Bowl’s 88-year history, and will improve and preserve the stadium for years to come. The fast-track project includes reconstruction of the press box to include luxury suites, club seats and lounge areas. An additional 1,900 premium seats will be added, tripling the current number. Thornton Tomasetti worked closely with the architect and construction manager to design a cost-effective foundation system for the expanded press box. The three-phase renovation will also include the addition of new restrooms, concession stands, a state-of-the-art video board on the north end and a 1940s historic replica scoreboard at the south end. The project is scheduled to be completed before the 100th Rose Bowl Game in January 2014.
