SandRidge Energy Site Canopy
Oklahoma City, Okla.
Thornton Tomasetti completed structural design for an outdoor site shade structure, which covers approximately 4,600 sf, at a corporate and civic campus in downtown Oklahoma City. The 34-ft-tall canopy is constructed of 1.5-inch steel plate sections and features a 50-ft cantilever supported on two tapering triangular steel columns. The canopy is designed to allow light to penetrate in the winter and to be blocked in the summer, based on the sun’s location. It will support flood lighting to illuminate an adjacent existing tower, internal lights to accentuate the canopy’s features and theatrical lighting for events held under the canopy. Additionally, it was designed for rigging loads and with special brackets to hoist rigging trusses, lights and sound systems. Rogers Marvel Architects is the client. Construction is scheduled for completion in December 2011.
