Block 37, 108 North State Street

Broadcasting recently began from the new home of CBS at 108 North State Street, a mixed-use development occupying Block 37 in bustling downtown Chicago. The lot, once vacant for more than fifteen years, will include retail stores and residences when finished. We faced a number of challenges during the project, including a tight construction schedule and building above a planned subway station. To finish the project on time, the contractor excavated downward simultaneously as the building went up. Thornton Tomasetti also sized the building foundations for a future residential tower on top of the retail podium. The architects are Gensler, Perkins + Will, Solomon Cordwell Buenz, and Goettsch Partners.
