Chula Vista High School
Chula Vista, Calif.
The construction document phase recently began for new construction and modernization of the Chula Vista High School in Chula Vista, Calif., a LEED Silver certified project. It includes a new 5,600-SF library and a 680-seat theater building that will house a performing arts center with a band room, choir room, dance studio and mariachi/orchestra room. BCA is the architect and Turner Construction the construction manager, with Thornton Tomasetti providing structural engineering services, including anchorage of the tall concrete masonry shear walls for out-of-plane loadings and a long-span truss over the seating area in the theater. We also provided glazing effects for openings in the Greek-influence architecture in the library, while maintaining adequate wall space for seismic loadings expected in Southern California.
