Zhongkai Sheshan Villas E26, Building Skin Details
Shanghai, China

We recently started façade consulting and shop drawing support for a complex, 3D building-skin façade for a high-end villa in Shanghai, designed by Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects. The project is for our new client, quick 4D, a Shanghai-based company specializing in rendered virtual reality presentations. Due to the complexity of the architectural design, façade details for the roof, as well as the walls, can only be developed properly if integrated into the complex geometry, since façade built-up thicknesses influence the building envelope surfaces and vice versa. The local contractor is therefore working with our New York office for technical shop-drawing support. We are developing typical details and using Digital Project software to define building-skin surfaces based on the required façade detailing thicknesses of various materials, thus combining Thornton Tomasetti’s Building Skin with computational and parametric design. The Villa E26 is scheduled to be finished later this year.
