350 E. Cermak St. Window Replacement
Chicago, Ill.
Shop drawings were reviewed this week for the window replacement at 350 E. Cermak St. The eight-story building was built in four sections, the first in 1912 and the last in 1929, and was renovated into a technology center in the late 1990s, with more than one million square feet of rentable space. It is a designated historic landmark by the City of Chicago, as well as at the state and national levels. Our study found that the original steel-framed windows on the eighth floor needed to be replaced. The single-pane windows with true divided lites were in poor condition due to age, with rusted frames, deteriorated paint, cracked panes, missing muntins, deteriorated sealant, bowed frames and lites glazed with various types of glass. New windows will closely match the appearance of the existing ones to meet the replication requirement set by the City of Chicago Landmarks Division.
