Akbar’s recent high-profile institutional projects include the Ruth and Raymond Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine, Fisher Translational Research Center and Roberts Proton Therapy Center, all for the University of Pennsylvania Health System in Philadelphia. He also managed the award-winning Janelia Farms Research Campus for Howard Hughes Medical Institute in Leesburg, Virginia. Additionally, he worked on the John Edward Porter National Neuroscience Research Center at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
Advancing the Profession
He is the author of three engineering handbooks published by McGraw-Hill: Steel Design Handbook LRFD Method, Handbook of Structural Steel Connection Design and Details and Tall and Super Tall Buildings; and he has contributed to structural analysis chapters for Building Design Handbook and Civil Engineering Handbook. He has taught and lectured at New York Polytechnic Institute, Stanford University and University of California, Berkeley.
