Being involved in the design and construction of complicated projects and seeing them realized is what Brian finds most appealing about engineering.

Joining Thornton Tomasetti in 2008, Brian Volpe has helped develop and expand the firm’s Construction Engineering practice in the Midwest and firmwide. He manages projects from inception to completion in various market sectors, including aviation, commercial, healthcare, industrial, mixed-use and sports.

Portfolio Highlights
His portfolio includes the award-winning Great American Tower at Queen City Square Tiara in Cincinnati, for which he provided connection design, geometric reconfiguration, Tekla modeling and detailing services; the Quantico Marine Corps Greenside Hangar Complex in Virginia, where his work in connection design, integrated modeling and steel shop drawing production helped shave weeks off the project schedule; and witness consulting in erection engineering and construction for a multimillion-dollar delay claim on a 90,000-seat soccer stadium in the United Kingdom.

Giving Back to the Profession
Brian believes that a well-rounded professional needs to be involved in committee work and community service. He is an active board and committee member of multiple industry groups and served as an AISC/ASCE National Student Steel Bridge Competition judge for six consecutive years. His contributions and expertise were recognized when he was named to Engineering News-Record Midwest’s Top 20 Under 40 list in 2011.
