Carol demonstrates her engineering skills on significant educational projects in the Midwest and is one of the firm’s most ardent QA/QC champions.

Carol Post joined Thornton Tomasetti in 1997 and has more than 30 years of experience in structural engineering. Her portfolio includes healthcare, higher education, residential, commercial and cultural facilities. She leads the firmwide Higher Education market sector and has engineered award-winning structures for some of the most noteworthy buildings in the Midwest – including five projects for Northwestern University and five projects for The University of Chicago.

A Leader Within the Firm
As a principal, Carol manages engineering staff and develops project-specific solutions to unique designs through ongoing interaction with architects, design team consultants and contractors. She is a LEED Accredited Professional and implements sustainable design principles into her projects. As well, she co-chairs the firmwide Standards committee and Quality Assurance/Quality Control committee.

Giving Back to the Profession
Carol has held visiting lecturer positions at Purdue University, Illinois Institute of Technology and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and was an adjunct professor at Northwestern University for 13 years. She is highly active in many professional organizations and frequently speaks at industry conferences and events to share lessons learned.

Outside of Work
Adept at juggling multiple activities, Carol enjoys spending free time – when not busy with family activities that include her three sons – swimming, biking and in yoga and salsa aerobics classes. She makes it a point to see either a live musical or theatrical performance every month.
