One of Mike’s early property loss consulting projects at Thornton Tomasetti involved ongoing damage assessment related to Hurricane Sandy.

Michael Dowdall has more than 30 years of experience in mechanical design and forensics. He specializes in complex facilities such as data centers and mission-critical facilities, as well as cleanrooms that require precision control of temperature and humidity. In addition to his knowledge of design and construction, Mike is experienced with forensic investigations and expert witness testimony, primarily for HVAC equipment failures and installation issues. He is also skilled at commissioning and life cycle cost analysis.

Founder of Design-Build Mechanical Firm
Prior to joining Thornton Tomasetti in 2012, Mike served as president of Dowdall Engineering Inc., a 14-person design-build mechanical firm he launched in 1992. The firm specialized in complex facilities such as data centers, mission-critical facilities and cleanrooms to Class 1, such as those used by the pharmaceutical industry and carbon fiber composite manufacturers. His in-depth knowledge has been enhanced by several professional development classes in construction law and claims, construction management and change orders.

Outside of Work
When not at his desk, Mike can be found doing target practice at his own shooting range or driving his Bobcat around his 20-acre property in the southwest corner of metropolitan Kansas City. Several times a year, he invites the local Boy Scout troop, of which he is one of the founders, to his property for a campout.
