One of Manny’s favorite sayings is, “If it ain’t broken, break it and then make it better.” He means: You may be doing OK, but you can always do better.

Emmanuel Velivasakis has four decades of comprehensive structural design experience with materials such as structural steel, cast-in-place concrete, fiber-reinforced plastics, timber, precast and pre-stressed concrete and masonry. Manny is a forensics specialist equally skilled at designing tall buildings as space-frame structures. Before moving into a consulting role, he headed up the Europe, Middle East and India regions.

Design and Investigative Expertise
Throughout his career, Manny has developed a wide range of design experience on commercial buildings, educational facilities, houses of worship, parking structures and temporary structures. His extensive investigation work includes exterior wall problems and structural failures. He has provided testimonies for cases involving structural failures and construction-related claims.

A Long History with the Firm
Joining Thornton Tomasetti 40 years ago, Manny worked on a number of the firm’s major projects, including the first high-rise, Tampa City Center, and one of the first important investigations, the Hartford Civic Center roof collapse. He is a leader credited with innovation, growing the firm and pushing technical boundaries.

Outside of Work
Now working as a consultant, Manny enjoys spending care-free time with his wife on the island of Crete in Greece, cultivating his vineyard and olive grove, making wine and grappa, and spending quality time with his childhood friends exploring the Aegean Sea and its treasures.
