Haris supports professional excellence through licensing standards and volunteers with the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying.

Haris Awal has more than 27 years of professional experience in structural engineering, with a focus on bridge superstructure and substructure design and construction. He is a key executive in the Weidlinger Transportation practice and focuses on the firm’s bridge and infrastructure design efforts in New England. His responsibilities include project and personnel management, analysis, design, preparation of construction documents, and construction administration and support services.

Depth of Expertise
Haris has worked on several important transportation assignments in the United States. He has also been involved in numerous projects at Boston’s Logan Airport, including several terminal viaducts, the three-story Federal Immigration Service facility, and the Hilton and Embassy Suites hotels.

Haris’ resume includes providing services during the construction phase for several projects. He oversaw the construction of a land-level-transfer-facility for Bath Iron Works in Maine, and spent two years designing procedures for the installation of high-capacity precast piles and large-diameter drilled shafts in the riverbed. He was also involved in a project at the Electric Boat facility in Groton, Connecticut, designing and building a 70-foot, curvilinear, underwater retaining wall. This effort included a complicated tie-back scheme that allowed a critical submarine dry-dock facility to remain in use.

Outside of Work
Haris enjoys cooking and likes to improvise rather than follow a recipe. He is fortunate to have eight college friends living in the Boston area and they gather once a month to maintain ties and swap stories. Also keeping Haris busy are his two college-age sons, Nafiun and Mehraj.
