John Abruzzo, who oversees the firm’s Northern California operations and Forensics practice, is a recognized leader in the field of forensic engineering, with extensive experience working with a wide variety of materials and design types including high-rise and long-span steel structures. He possesses specialized knowledge in performance-based design, assessing and predicting the behavior of steel and reinforced concrete connections, structural stability and hardening, blast analysis, nonlinear analysis, materials testing, data acquisition and testing of structural elements. Based in San Francisco, he coordinates the firm’s California operations along with Bruce Gibbons, who is based in Los Angeles.

Structural Collapse Investigations
John has worked on some of the most significant structural collapses in the United States, including the I-35W Bridge, L’Ambiance Plaza Condominiums, the Schoharie Creek Thruway Bridge in New York State, the Miller Park (home of the Milwaukee Brewers) crane collapse and the Tropicana Parking Garage in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
