John Viise has more than 20 years of experience in structural design, specializing in tall, supertall and megatall buildings as well as other types of complex large-scale projects around the world. During his career, he has worked on many noteworthy and iconic buildings. These include the 380-meter-tall World Trade Center Abu Dhabi, the 260-meter Samsung China Headquarters in Beijing, the 350-meter Hanking Center in Shenzhen and the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which at 828 meters is currently the world’s tallest building.

Technical Leadership and Contributions
John’s work in China spurred his participation in CTBUH’s Seismic Working Group, of which he is a co-chair. The group develops new guidelines for the performance based seismic design of tall buildings. He has served as a North American representative on the IStructE Council for the past few years and currently serves as chair of its Seismic and Dynamics Events Panel. John is also a full voting member of the ASCE 41 Standards Committee, which deals with the development of performance based design provisions for seismic design.

Outside of Work
John and his wife are raising four energetic boys who love to fish and play sports and music. All of his sons play baseball and over the past decade, John has coached each one at one time or another. The Viise family are diehard New York Yankees baseball and Virginia Tech Hokies football fans.
