Lynn Simon has more than 22 years of experience in the green building industry. She joined Thornton Tomasetti in 2013 after 19 years leading Simon & Associates, Inc., a green building consulting firm she founded in 1994. Her prior experience includes positions with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and Global Green USA, a nonprofit dedicated to greening affordable housing. Lynn’s responsibilities include leading the firm’s U.S. West Coast building sustainability efforts and managing complex green design and consulting projects.
Lynn is a green building pioneer and a leading authority in the industry. She has consulted on numerous LEED projects, including some of the earliest to achieve certification in California. Notable examples include the California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco (LEED-EBOM Platinum); CalPERS Headquarters Expansion Project, Sacramento (LEED-NC Gold); the Energy Foundation, San Francisco (LEED-CI Platinum); Gish Apartments, San Jose (LEED-NC Gold and LEED for Homes Gold); and Hunters Point Shipyard-Candlestick Point in San Francisco, a 777-acre LEED-ND Gold mixed-use development.
Lynn has served on a number of USGBC committees and on the board of directors of several building industry organizations, including American Institute of Architects (AIA) San Francisco, the National AIA and the USGBC. She is the recipient of the USGBC’s 2011 President’s Leadership Award and was named one of 25 Environmental Champions by EnvironDesign Journal in 2005. Lynn is one of only a handful of people who are both an AIA Fellow and a LEED Fellow.
Outside of Work
Lynn loves the outdoors, especially hiking up mountains in distant lands. Some of her favorite pastimes include a good meal (especially if prepared by someone else), wine tasting, reading and spending time with her family (including her dog SmugsE) and friends.
