Mike often leverages parametric modeling to bring efficient and flexible solutions to geometrically complex architectural designs.

Since joining Thornton Tomasetti in 2006, Mike Bauer has been involved in a wide range of projects, including tall towers, commercial and residential buildings, sports venues, and educational facilities in the U.S. and around the globe. He is highly skilled in the structural analysis and design of steel and concrete structures and the retrofit of existing structures.

Special Structures Work
Mike has particular expertise in long-span and specialty structures. Proficient in building information modeling and parametric modeling, he is able to help architects and other clients realize expressive and highly creative designs. His portfolio includes the three-acre green roof that spans over Barclays Center arena in Brooklyn, New York, the exposed woven sculptural steel columns at the Brookfield Place Winter Garden Pavilion in Manhattan, and a temporary canopy fashioned from 300 pairs of recycled jeans for Milan Design Week in Italy.

Outside of Work
Mike is an avid musician. Although classically trained in trumpet, he is more likely these days to be playing one of his many guitars. He frequently attends concerts, art openings, and other cultural events in his adopted home of Brooklyn.
