Yulia’s Federation Tower Complex project will be the tallest building in Europe and the tallest concrete tower in the world when it’s completed in 2015.

Yulia Balyberdina joined Thornton Tomasetti in 2007 and has more than eight years of experience in the structural design, analysis and project management of international project teams. She works on a variety of structural engineering projects in Moscow, Russia, New York City and internationally. As a deputy director of the Moscow office and director of international projects, her responsibilities include office management, project management and project coordination.

Portfolio Highlights
Her portfolio includes high-rise commercial and residential buildings such as Crystal for the New Ring of Moscow project, multifunction developments such as Slava for the Moscow Watch Factory, and other residential and multifunction complexes and underground parking facilities throughout the city.

Technical Innovation
Yulia worked on the structural design team for the Federation Tower Complex, Moscow City – two sail-shaped towers of 93 and 64 stories – which was the first project in Russia to make use of super high-strength concrete technology and will be the tallest concrete tower in the world when it’s completed. A related 72-story commercial and residential development, Eurasia Tower, Moscow City, is the first high-rise in Russia to use a structural system of composite steel and concrete core.

Outside of Work
Yulia is a sports fan, watching as much soccer, figure skating and tennis (her son is a professional player) as she can. She enjoys the symphony and piano concerts of Russian composers, especially Sergei Rachmaninov, and somehow finds time for travel, alpine skiing and gardening.
