Bold Tendencies Sculpture Park
Thanks to some creative engineering, the rooftop of a disused car park in South London is transformed each spring into a place for art and culture.
Not-for-profit arts organisation Bold Tendencies occupies the rooftop spaces of Peckham’s Multi-Storey Car Park in the heart of South London, transforming the disused building into a civic space for art. Each spring artists complete new sculptural installations that are erected on the roof for visitors to enjoy.
We have been working with Bold Tendencies since 2021 to provide structural engineering and other services to bring these sculptures to life. Depending on the sculpture, our work has dealt with how to design and assemble the sculptures without being able to see the connections and how to safely secure the pieces to resist strong winds.
Our work began with Andy Holden's ‘In Praise of Folly’ in 2021, which appeared like a large purple boulder perched atop the roof; Jesse Pollock's house-like ‘The Granary;’ and Frances Drayson's ‘Either and After/Sun Dogs,’ a steel ribbon. The next year, 2022, we worked on Rhea Dillon's ‘9/3 or how to fall,’ which comprised stacked boxes, and, in 2023, we worked on Kahil Robert's ‘Memorial to Labor.’ Our most recent collaboration with Bold Tendencies in 2025 involved Emil Alrai's ‘Guardian’ and Richard Dean Hughes's ‘Under a Painted Ceiling.’
