overview

Designed to be one of the greenest casino developments in the world, Mohegan Sun was to include two hotels, dining, retail and entertainment amenities. The project would have occupied 42 acres in Revere, Massachusetts, and had targeted LEED Gold certification.

We provided sustainability consulting and energy modeling services to the design team led by KPF for the design phases of the project, which was not built. Working closely with the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority (MTGA) and the design project team led by KPF, we helped develop innovative sustainability strategies for a high-performance facility.

highlights

  • Sustainable features included a gas-fired CHP system, an extensive green roof, a one-MW rooftop solar photovoltaic array, high-efficiency LED lighting, heat recovery ventilation, daylighting controls, rainwater harvesting, grey water reuse for flushing, and a 5,000 square-foot rooftop greenhouse.
  • The energy model examined several design iterations and ECM studies to achieve the energy target for the project.
