Mr. C Coconut Grove
Lifted on stilts to offer sweeping views of Biscayne Bay and the Coconut Grove Skyline, this hotel's design draws inspiration from Italy’s iconic coastal style.
Overview
Offering sweeping views of Biscayne Bay and the Coconut Grove Skyline, Mr. C Miami draws inspiration from Italy’s coastal style. Lifted on structural stilts, the five-star hotel was designed by Arquitectonica and offers 100 rooms with private terraces, including eight premier suites and a presidential suite. A restaurant and pool are situated on the fifth floor of the hotel, giving guests unobstructed views of the ocean and bay.
We provided structural design services for the six-story, 80,000-square-foot hotel located in the heart of Coconut Grove. Our scope of work included structural design of the main building components (i.e. shear walls, beams, columns, slabs, foundations and concrete stairs) and providing structural threshold inspections.
Overview
- The first floor (level 1) is composed of a 28-inch-thick, post-tensioned transfer slab that sits on 13-steel-V-Columns and 2-concrete-shear wall cores.
- Floors two through four are typical levels composed of post-tensioned slabs and supported by perimeter concrete columns with interior steel posts hidden inside hotel partition walls to maximize the space in the units.
- The structural threshold inspections involved examining reinforcement for slabs, columns, shear walls, masonry walls, beams and stairs. It also involved assessing the placement of concrete for all structural elements.
