Brooklyn Atlantic Yards, Brooklyn, New York
A major part of the revitalization effort in downtown Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Atlantic Yards project consists of 11.1 million square feet of office towers, residential buildings, parking, and an 800,000 square foot, 22,000-seat arena. A focal point of the high-profile redevelopment, the arena will be the future home of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets (currently the New Jersey Nets). The much anticipated development will create housing for 18,000 people and thousands of jobs for the community.

The overall plan calls for 17 towers spanning three city blocks in one of the busiest areas in Brooklyn, preventing the ability to close the entire site to traffic during construction. Among the many intricacies of the project, moving a working rail yard and designing a platform to support six towers above, requires not only creative design and construction, but extensive coordination between consultants and various public agencies.
