Thornton Tomasetti provided structural engineering services for this mixed-used project in China, including structural design, optimization services and peer review at the CD phase. It consists of a high-rise office tower, a five-star hotel tower, a residential tower and a retail podium. The total gross floor area is 199,521 square meters with 136,555 square meters above grade, and 62,966 square meters below.
Due to the pre-existing piles on site, one of the main design considerations was how to use them cost-effectively. In the case of Building One, Thornton Tomasetti decided to eliminate all of the outrigger floors and optimized the foundation system. For Building Two, the transfer structure was removed. We also provided optimization services which resulted in lower material fees.
