Bridgeport Hospital Capital Improvement Projects
Thornton Tomasetti provided mechanical and electrical design, construction administration, structural renovation, and site design services for multiple projects at this 425-bed health care facility in Connecticut’s second largest city.
The emergency department renovation and expansion involved significant reconfiguration, including new site access and entrance relocation. A portion of the existing building had to be converted for use as a surrogate emergency room during construction. To minimize disruption to critical facilities, the project was built in multiple phases.
Thornton Tomasetti also provided MEP services for infrastructure upgrades, rehabilitation and additions to several areas of the facility. Portions of the work have been in critical areas that require sophisticated temperature, humidity and filtration systems. Other scope of work included the addition of a new hyperbaric chamber, HVAC upgrades for operating rooms, paralleling switchgear and generator upgrades, HVAC upgrades to the West Tower, the renovation of existing catheterization laboratories, and remedial design work to one of three garages located at the site.
