Chelsea Modern
Chelsea Modern is an award-winning 12-story, 47-unit high-end residential condominium building located in the west Chelsea Arts District. It is the successful manifestation of good design combined with functionality, grace and utility.
The building façade consists of a blue tinted four-sided structurally glazed curtain wall, divided into five undulating horizontal bands interspersed with a pattern of contrasting clear glass projected windows. The ground floor consists of garden units with gallery spaces. A glass block sidewalk provides natural light to the gallery spaces below. Other amenities include gardens, roof deck, gym and a health spa.
The ambitious façade of the Chelsea Modern is the building’s signature: the complexity of the articulating curtain wall called for exacting design, detailing and construction. To help meet these demands, Thornton Tomasetti provided curtain wall consulting services including roofing, waterproofing, field testing and observation during construction of the exterior wall.
