Thornton Tomasetti is providing structural engineering services for a combined public Club Room and Boat House, located on the southeast side of Glorietta Bay Park. The Club Room will provide community space for local youth programs and the Boat House will store non-motorized watercraft.

The structure is a combination of wood frame and steel connection with a gravity system consisting of wood joist framing and custom-made exposed glu-lam trusses. Wood shear walls and steel moment frames provide lateral resistance to seismic and wind loads.

The project, which is seeking LEED Silver certification, features scenic views, natural daylighting and a prevailing ocean breeze. Thornton Tomasetti worked closely with the architect to achieve sustainable goals. Requirements for natural light and ventilation posed significant challenges at the roof level where steel Vierendeel trusses were used to allow setbacks for windows.
