Thornton Tomasetti provided structural design of a new elementary school campus that includes two 12,300-square-foot classroom buildings, a 4,900-square-foot media center, and a 12,300-square-foot gymnasium/multipurpose building with an indoor/outdoor stage. The two-story, 33,000-square-foot administration/ classroom building has a clerestory between the pitched roofs to bring daylight to interior spaces.
Community members, District and school staff worked with the design team to create a project that embraces the newly created surrounding neighborhood while providing an environment conducive to learning in a new and innovative ways. The buildings have been developed on several other sites for reuse including Schallenberger Elementary and Gunderson High Schools for the San José Unified School District and Questa Elementary School for the Lammersville Elementary School District.
