Education and District Office Building (Sutter County Facility)
Thornton Tomasetti is providing structural engineering for two buildings that will house classrooms and district administrative offices. The project comprises a two-story, 60,000-square-foot education center with 18 classrooms and a two-story, 29,000-square-foot district office for 77 employees on a 20-acre site.
The buildings employ a steel-frame, concrete tilt-up hybrid structural system to resist both lateral and gravity loads. Project challenges include meeting the district’s set budget for construction, poor soil conditions and designing the 32-foot storefront and highly fenestrated concrete tilt-up walls.
The project will meet LEED Silver standards.
