Green Dot Charter Schools, Animo Leadership High School
The Green Dot Charter Schools was founded in 1999 with the goals of improving attrition and graduation numbers, as well as inspiring students to pursue higher levels of education.
Design is underway for the nationally ranked Animo High School in Los Angeles County. Thornton Tomasetti faced the challenge of providing structural design for the school’s two sites, located 1.4 miles from a major active fault. To meet the challenge, Thornton Tomasetti introduced a seismic load-resisting system that combines special steel moment frames and unique concentric-braced frames to withstand high seismic force and torsion effects from horizontal and vertical irregularity.
The school is seeking Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) and/or LEED certification upon completion.
