Harris Methodist Fort Worth Heart Center
Harris Methodist Hospital is a full-service medical center with specialized capabilities, including cardiology, oncology, trauma, and women’s services.
Thornton Tomasetti provided structural design services for an award-winning expansion that includes 123,600 square feet for a five-level tower that can accommodate up to five future levels, a catheterization laboratory, a 19,145-square-foot surgery department expansion, a 7,825-square-foot surgery department shell expansion, a 3,000-square-foot surgery department renovation, and a connecting tunnel. A 176,000-square-foot, 550-car parking structure supports the facility’s users.
The surgical expansion areas were built over and between existing structures and a roadway. The tower is cast-in-place concrete skip-joist construction, including a full basement. The surgical expansion is a composite steel structure with long-span trusses.
