Howard Hughes Medical Institute Headquarters Expansion
Structural design for a two-story expansion to an existing building with two underground parking levels totaling 169 spaces. The new structure includes offices, conference center with a tiered meeting room, library, and a common area in a dramatic atrium with a cantilevered stair.
The above-grade construction is framed in steel, with a concrete garage below. An elliptical central meeting space features a curved glass curtain wall that leads to an undulating glass-walled corridor connecting to the existing building, allowing abundant natural light into interior workspaces.
The project earned LEED Gold certification.
