The $250 million renovation to Kauffman Stadium for the MLB Kansas City Royals includes the addition of administrative office facilities, new club and premium seating, new suites, and expansion and widening of the concourses. At the upper concourse level the two new widened vomitory portals provide a dramatic view of the playing field for visitors. A variety of fan amenities were incorporated including expansion of concession and dining areas, additional restrooms, design of a children’s activities area and the integration of additional retail shops. Improvements to the outfield include a 360 degree concourse, new seating, a Hall of Fame building (in left field), a restaurant (in right field), restrooms, and concessions. Thornton Tomasetti also designed the new structure for the 85-foot-wide by 140-foot-tall high-definition scoreboard utilizing BIM technology.

In conjunction with the expansion and improvements to the facility, a comprehensive condition assessment and repair design was performed for the existing stadium.
