Overview

PNC Park, home to the MLB's Pittsburgh Pirates, is a 40,000-seat stadium on a tight Pittsburgh site on the banks of the Allegheny river. The new stadium was necessary following the controlled implosion of their previous ballpark, Three Rivers Stadium, in early 2001.

We provided structural design services to Populous & CannonDesign for the stadium, which opened in time in for the 2001.-2002 MLB season.

Highlights

  • The stadium features two main concourses, a suite and a club level with a four-story administration building and a two-story entertainment and scoreboard building in the outfield, as well as a promenade and players parking near the river.
  • Special features include two spiral pedestrian ramps, four circulation towers, five single mast 100-foot-tall light standards, press level at the upper deck, sunscreen, and an arcade.
  • The stadium was completed in just 24 months.
