Thornton Tomasetti provided structural design services for Hamon Tower, an award-winning 512,000-square-foot medical complex that is Presbyterian Hospital’s largest expansion project in its 40-year history. The prominent structure, with its 10-story concrete frame, fits among six adjoining buildings, while maintaining its distinct presence.

Devoted to intensive care for the critically ill, the facility provides central sterile, radiology, respiratory therapy, and cardiopulmonary space; an emergency department; a conference center; laboratory space; interventional administration areas; and 180 acuity adaptable beds for critical care, telemetry and acute care. The facility is supported by a 397,000-square-foot, 1,169-car parking structure.

Thornton Tomasetti also provided structural engineering services for a three-story, 6,420-square-foot concourse area on the north side of the existing hospital. The concourse includes a stepped retaining wall with planters, exterior glass wall, escalator, and sky bridges that connect to the main building. An additional skybridge joins the Jackson Rehabilitation Building to the concourse. Renovation of 132,000 square feet of the adjacent hospital is scheduled for completion in 2011.

Since 1992, Thornton Tomasetti has supported development of the Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas campus with the addition of 1.2 million square feet, including structural engineering of a support services building, a medical research facility, an expansion of the emergency department, an addition to the Margot Perot Women’s Center, and renovations to the radiology department.
