Ridgecrest Regional Hospital Expansion
Thornton Tomasetti provided structural design services for a two-phase
expansion, which included a 47,264-square-foot, two-story steel special
moment frame, 43-bed tower; a seismically detached, 25,800-square-foot,
two-story steel braced frame medical office building; and a single-story steel
frame cafeteria expansion and remodel. The new tower houses operating
rooms and the intensive care unit on the ground floor and patient rooms on
the upper floors. The first floor of the medical office building houses
outpatient services, ancillary space including a lobby and reception area,
administrative offices, a staff lounge, and other support functions. The
second floor is shelled out for future occupancy of physician medical office
space.
The new construction required demolition of 25 percent of the existing singlestory
hospital. A central plant expansion addressed increased utility
requirements.
