San Francisco Hall of Justice Expansion (County Jails #8 and #9)
This project consisted of one ten-story and one six-story tower on a concrete
podium utilizing concrete shear wall and steel-braced frame systems on a
pile foundation, respectively. Structural features include curved shear walls
and large circular atria through concrete flat slabs, ramps, a pedestrian
bridge, and basement walls resisting hydrostatic pressures.
Buildings include prison housing, industries, offices, medical clinic, police
functions, and garage. Phase 2 involved the structural design of a vertical
addition to the six-story tower to expand the clinic and the inmate services
department.
